Driver flees at Providence roadblock, police find 22 kg of suspected cannabis in car

Police ranks in Regional Division 4B were performing patrol duties at around 07:30 hrs this morning when they received information that a Toyota Axio motor car bearing registration #PAF 7021, was carrying suspected narcotics, and was proceeding north on the East Bank Demerara public road.

As a result of the ‘tip-off’, the ranks conducted a roadblock exercise at Providence, East Bank Demerara, in the vicinity of Lambada Sports Bar, a release from the police said. During this exercise, the ranks observed the car bearing registration #PAF 7021, proceeding north on the western carriageway of the Providence public road.

The driver, later identified to be Brian Houston, stopped the vehicle about fifty feet away from the Police ranks, came out of it and ran away, south of the Providence public road. The ranks then proceeded to search the car and found three large bulky transparent plastic bags marked SP, containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be Cannabis in the trunk of the car.

Further searches were carried out and several documents including insurance in favour of the driver, one orange and white jersey, two empty Guinness bottles and one XL energy drink were found.

The suspected cannabis and the motorcar were escorted to the Golden Grove Police Station. The suspected cannabis when weighed amounted to 22.235 Kg.

A Samsung cell phone, fitness revenue licence, and Insurance from NAFICO in favour of Brian Houston were all lodged. Efforts are presently being made to have the suspect arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
