Weldaad police intercept car with 113 kg of suspected ganja

Lawmen at Weldaad Police Station, West Berbice  yesterday afternoon intercepted a motor car transporting $12.5M worth of cannabis and two men have been arrested.

At a roadblock yesterday afternoon, the vehicle bearing registration number PYY 9885, was stopped by ranks.

Upon the vehicle being stopped, police said the lone passenger, a male immediately exited the motorcar and started to walk away. He was apprehended and searched but nothing illegal was found on him. The driver was also subjected to a search which came up empty.

Ranks then searched the car  and found seven bulky parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The ranks on the roadblock brought the discovery to the attention of the driver who said that the suspected cannabis belonged to him.

He was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested and he said he was hired by the passenger.

The suspected cannabis and motorcar were taken into the station compound where the cannabis was weighed. It amounted to 113 kilograms, 636 grams.
