At about  5.35 yesterday afternoon, Police ranks were conducting a ‘stop and search’ exercise on the Weldaad Public Road, West Berbice, when one of the ranks stopped a motor car (PYY 1658), a white 212.

The vehicle was driven at the time by a 24-year-old of Ankerville, Corentyne Berbice. There were four passengers in the vehicle. One of the ranks then asked the passengers to exit the car with their belongings, which they did.

One of the passengers, a resident of #67 Village, Corriverton Berbice, then pointed out a haversack and a travelling bag to be his. Inside the travelling bag, police found three bulky transparent parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

A further search was carried out, and police found (inside the haversack) one bulky parcel with suspected cannabis.

The passenger was told of the offence committed, arrested and escorted into the Weldaad Police Station, along with the suspected cannabis, which, when weighed, amounted to 8,675 grams.

Investigations continue.
