Denger Lopez, 28, of no fixed place of abode, appeared before Magis-trate Delon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday where he was charged with larceny.

It was alleged that on January 11, he stole from one Samsung cellular phone valued $40,000 belonging to Vivianne Ritchie.

Lopez pleaded guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor told the court that Ritchie was at work when the incident occurred. She had left her phone on a counter top and moved away when Lopez was observed by another coworker entering the store and taking the cellular device.

Upon seeing this, the coworker raised an alarm and pursued Lopez. He was eventually apprehended and taken to the Alberttown police station where the phone was found in his possession.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced him to nine months’ imprisonment.
