Corentyne man dies after being attacked by three pit bulls

A man died yesterday in Hampshire, Corentyne, after he was attacked by three pit bull dogs. The police in Region Six have since arrested the owner of the dogs as part of their investigation.

Dead is Latchminen Permaul also known as ‘Blackboy’, 64, unemployed, of Lot 249 Hamp-shire, Corentyne, Berbice.

The incident happened during the wee hours of yesterday through the R&S Street, Hamp-shire, Corentyne.

Permaul’s wife, Sandra Permaul, 61, a housewife, reported that her husband left home around 5 pm on Monday and went to a liquor shop in Toopoo Village, Corentyne, where he was imbibing alcohol and became intoxicated.

While returning home in the late hours, the man reportedly stopped on the corner of the street and fell asleep.

According to the woman, around 5 am yesterday she received information from her son Yoganand Permaul also known as ‘Govinda’, 35, a labourer of Lot 249 Hampshire, that her husband had been  mauled by the three dogs.

The son reported that he was walking up the street when he heard a commotion and noticed that three pit bulls had breached the fence of the yard and were biting Permaul who at that time had appeared to be motionless.

The police were immediately summoned to the scene where they examined Permaul’s body and noticed what appeared to be dog bites on both of Permaul’s legs and neck. Dog bites were also seen on his right hip and right hand.

Permaul was picked up and escorted to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police last evening said that a 35-year-old male, the owner of the three dogs, was arrested and escorted to the Albion Police Station, where he was placed into custody, pending an investigation
