Wanted man held in Bartica over murder of Nabaclis labourer

Junior Heywood known as ‘Larry’, who was wanted by police for the murder of Otis Andey Haimchand at Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was arrested yesterday in Bartica, Region Seven.  

A police source told Stabroek News that Heywood was escorted to the Cove and John Police Station.  

It is alleged that on January 6, Heywood stabbed and killed Otis Andey Haimchand, a 29-year-old labourer of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, during an argument over a phone.

Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier in the day, Heywood and Haimchand had a misunderstanding over a cellular phone. Later, at around 21.00 hours, they had another altercation where they scuffled and Haimchand tried to escape. The suspect allegedly pursued Haimchand and stabbed him in the chest causing him to collapse to the ground. He then fled the scene on foot. 

Haimchand was subsequently pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.  

According to police, when the body was examined, what appeared to be blood was seen on the chest area along with a wound to the left side of the upper chest, in the region of the heart.
