`Iswe’ for court today over murder of Shonette Dover

Shaquawn Alleyne known as `Iswe’ is expected to appear in a Linden court today over the murder of Shonette Dover in 2021, the police say.

Meanwhile, the police are learning more about what might have happened to the gun that was allegedly used in the murder.

Two persons have been arrested for questioning in relation to the gun. According to police investigations, the weapon used in the murder was sold to Shakeel Austin of Lot 200 Block 22, Wismar, Linden. After learning of Dover’s murder, Alleyne allegedly moved to sell the gun.

According to Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, detectives arrested Austin last Saturday morning after he was referred to as the Linden man who ‘Iswe’, in his confession, sold the firearm to prior to his escaping to Suriname. Austin, when told by detectives that he was named in ‘Iswe’s’ confession, admitted that he did purchase the gun from ‘Iswe’ for $100,000. During his interrogation at the CID headquarters, Austin is purported to have said, among other things, that during the search for Shonette, ‘Iswe’ told him that he had a gun to sell for $100,000 and asked Austin if he knew of anyone who had wanted it.  Austin allegedly told investigators that he suggested to ‘Iswe’ that he will keep the gun and instead lend him the $100,000. Austin said he later met ‘Iswe’ at a house not far from Bayroc ground and gave him the money and collected the gun. It is alleged that the handing over of the weapon occurred at Canvas City, Wismar, Linden between the 3rd and 29th April, 2021. Austin related to investigators that he took the gun and kept it at his aunt’s residence at Cinderella City.

After learning that ‘Iswe’ had allegedly shot and killed Shonette and that the police were looking for ‘Iswe’ and suspecting that the firearm in his possession was the murder weapon, Austin told the police he called his friend and told him that he had a gun to sell for $50,000. The friend later met him at the back of Wisroc and he gave the friend the gun. However, Austin told the police that his friend had no money to pay for the gun, so he told his friend to fence his yard and he would discount the money. The friend later completed the fencing of the yard. According to Blanhum, investigators were able to confirm the information provided by Austin in relation to the fencing of the yard.

Last Friday, ‘Iswe’ confessed to investigators at the CID Headquarters that he did shoot his girlfriend back in 2021 but it was not intentional. ‘Iswe’ was arrested in Suriname last Thursday and handed over to Guyanese authorities on Friday morning to face the charge of murder.
