CAPE TOWN, South Africa,  CMC – Captain Kieron Pollard perished for a first-ball ‘duck’ as MI Cape Town lost their fourth game of the SA20 campaign, with a 36-run defeat to Durban Super Giants.

In pursuit of 158 at Newlands here Tuesday, Cape Town’s batting let them down again, the hosts finding themselves restricted to 121 for nine from their 20 overs.

Englishman Sam Curran top-scored with 38 from 27 while Dewald Brevis chipped in with 21 from 19 balls, but they were the only two to pass 20.

The 36-year-old Pollard was sixth out, one of two wickets to fall in the 15th over, lbw to 19-year-old left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad (3-22) with the score on 92.

It was the second straight ‘duck’ for Pollard, the former West Indies white-ball captain also failing to score against Paarl Royals last weekend.

Then, Cape Town’s batting also suffered, dismissed for 103 in pursuit of 163.

Sent in earlier, Super Giants rallied to 157 for six off their 20 overs, opener Matthew Breetzke top-scoring with 48 from 46 balls and Wiaan Mulder striking a 20-ball 38 not out down the order.

Super Giants were struggling on 23 for two in the third over before Breetzke partnered with JJ Smuts (26) in a 43-run, third wicket stand and then in a 39-run, sixth wicket with Mulder, to revive the innings.

In reply, Cape Town were tottering on 39 for three at the end of the seventh over before Curran, who lashed a four and four sixes, posted 48 for the fourth with Brevis.

However, Australian Marcus Stoinis (4-18) intervened with his medium pace to knock over both and clear his side’s path to full points.
