NIS announcement in the budget conveyed the impression that only a fraction will benefit

Dear Editor,

We will be most grateful if you will kindly highlight/publish our grave concerns as it relates to the Budget appropriation and announced NIS increase. This was published as: ‘NIS minimum moved from $35,000.00 to $43,000.00’. The announcement conveyed the impression that only those below $43,000.00 will benefit. With the last increase in 2019, all NIS pensioners received the some increase; not a percentage of NIS pensioners. There should be no discrimination on recrimination here.

Since 2020-2023 there has been a severe neglect/punishment of all NIS pensioners irrespective if you earn $50,000 dollars or $60,000 dollars plus. The Ministry of Finance has to come clean, just and fair with this one. The benefits for all NIS pensioners should be humanely thought out, and if needs be, get back to the drawing board to make it right. In the history of the NIS no fraction of NIS pensioners got an increase to the detriment of others.

Sincerely,

Soorji Bishun
