City Hall aided and abetted the occupation around the Water Street store

Dear Editor,

So the M&CC has the vendors playing ‘transfer the problem where no court order exists’.  Remove them from outside the Water Street complex (court order) and put them in spaces where no court order exists, while the council continues to fiddle.  It is incomprehensible that the situation is dire with vendors occupying spots on the road while a feasibility study is ongoing (NewsRoom Feb 6).  How could vendors be allowed to occupy the road, a busy thoroughfare?

It is posited that some of the vendors have stalls in Stabroek Market, the Bazaar as well as the arcade, but were allowed to occupy the pavement around the Water Street store.  City Hall knows this but aided and abetted the occupation around the Water Street store.  Now it is faced with a quandry to find alternative location for these vendors. It seems prudent that if vendors have stalls in the locations mentioned, then the thing is to get them back to occupying those locations.

City Hall is the problem it cannot be the solution

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
