Reference servicecommission.gov.gy, a trained teacher (TS3) had a minimum salary of $100,886 in 2017. Data at data.worldbank.org shows inflation as follow:
2022 – 6.12%
2021 – 5.03%
2020 – 0.99%
2019 – 2.09%
2018 – 1.28%
2017 – 1.90%
Using the Geometric Mean to calculate average salary from 2018 – 2023 for a trained teacher (TS3):
2018 – $103,853
2019 – $106,969
2020 – $110,178
2021 – $113,483
2022 – $116,888
2023 – $120,394
Average cost of living per month for a family:
Breakfast – $25,000
Lunch – $32,000
Snack – $12,000
Cooking gas – $4,000
Electricity – $10,000
Mobile phone – $5,000
Internet – $10,000
Rent – $100,000
Entertainment – $15,000
Transportation (City Public) – $ 5,000
Miscellaneous including clothing, saving, etc – $20,000
Total – $238,000
The above shows that trained teachers (TS3) require an approximate minimum $8,000 per month increase in salary.
