Jamaica: Identities of four men killed in Trelawny crash released

(Jamaica Gleaner) The police have released the identities of the four men who died in a collision involving two cars on the Rock main road in Trelawny early yesterday morning.

They are 23-year-old fisherman Kimani Thompson; 24-year-old photographer Andre Gonzales and 25-year-old Jason Reid, a lifeguard, all from Trelawny.

The fourth victim is 24-year-old Marco Williams from Ocho Rios in St Ann.

In updated information, the police say the incident happened about 2:32 a.m. and involved a Toyota Mark X, in which the four men were travelling, and an Audi Q3.

Thompson was reportedly driving the Mark X towards Falmouth when upon reaching the intersection with Daniel Town main road and the North Coast Highway, he collided with the Audi that was attempting to make a right turn.

The police were alerted and all four men in the Mark X motorcar were transported to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

The passengers of the Audi- a man and a woman were admitted in stable condition.

Earlier, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gary McKenzie, the head of the police’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch said following the collision, the Mark X crashed into guardrails on the road and was “seriously damaged”.

“The nature of the damage would suggest that the speed was above 50 kilometres per hour so the investigation as well as the reconstruction of the crash will determine the exact range or specific speeds of the vehicles,” McKenzie told The Gleaner.

He says the speed limit heading towards the intersection is about 50 kilometres per hour.
