Dialogue, not confrontation

Dear Editor,

I feel honoured that I have been given the opportunity to serve as Educator/teacher from 1968 to 2019. Considering myself having outlived my usefulness at age over 75, I am still concerned about the current teachers’ strike in Guyana.

I recall my early years as a teacher when Mr. Richard Persico was the head of the Guyana Teachers’ Union. Mr. Persico followed the idea of “Dialogue not confrontation,” in relation to representing its membership.

In consequence, teachers benefitted significantly from this wise leadership.

I am too small to advise any but I am wondering if the GTU and the Ministry of Education can move towards dialogue and not confrontation with the right of the teachers to seek the legal binding decision of arbitration, if necessary.

Yours sincerely,

Krishna Nand Prasad
