Defending champion, the Guyana Harpy Eagles, thrashed the West Indies Academy by 221 runs yesterday in the third round of the West Indies Four-Day Championship at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua.

Set an imposing 429 for victory, the West Indies Academy, who started the final day precariously perched on 161/7, was only able to add 46 runs to their total, as they were bundled out for 207 in 49.5 overs. The three remaining wickets were shared between fast-bowler Isai Thorne and spinner Veerasammy Permaul.

In pursuit of an improbable 429 for victory, West Indies Academy commenced the final day 161–7, still 268 away from the mammoth target.

Isai Thorne is in the process of dismissing Carlon Bowen Tuckett with a short ball.

However, they merely survived under an hour and added 46 more for the fall of the final three wickets that were shared by Isai Thorne and Veerasammy Permaul. Carlon Bowen-Tuckett, who resumed at 34, could only add nine runs to his tally before being dismissed for 43 by Thorne.

Ashmead Nedd, who managed to display quality with the bat, was sent back to the pavilion by Permaul for 26. Permaul also crafted the final dismissal of Johann Layne for seven via leg before wicket (LBW) to clinch the win.

Overall, Thorne led the way with figures of 4-49, while Sinclair and Permaul supported with 2-30 and 2-48, respectively.

The competition will take a hiatus and resume on March 13th. Guyana will face off against the Barbados Pride in their next encounter.

Meanwhile, the Windward Islands Volcanoes recorded their third consecutive win with an eight-wicket victory over the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CC) Marooners. Set at 125 for victory, after dismissing the Marooners for 315 in the second inning, the Volcanoes raced to 128/2, led by an unbeaten 58 from Alick Athanaze and an undefeated 42 from Jeremy Solozano.

Similarly, the Barbados Pride defeated their hosts, the Jamaica Scorpions, by four wickets at Sabina Park. Chasing 173 for victory, the visitors overhauled the target, ending on 176/6. Roshon Primus led the way with 43, while Kevin Wickham and Shayne Mosley supported with 29 and 25, respectively. Off-spinner Peat Salmon claimed 3-69.

Earlier in the day, the hosts were dismissed for 292 after resuming on 220/8. Shaquille Cumberbatch ended with figures of 5-46 for the Barbadians.

Also, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes defeated Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by four wickets at Warner Park, St. Kitts, and Nevis.

In pursuit of 162 for victory after Red Force was dismissed for 342 in the second inning, the Hurricanes, led by 53 from Keacy Carty, ended on 165/6. 17-year-old Jewel Andrew missed out on his second half century of the fixture with 48 runs. Jahmar Hamilton added 29 runs. Khary Pierre was the pick of the bowlers for the loser with figures of 4-69.
