Kaituma businessman held over gun, ammo, ganja

Andrew Williams, a 35-year-old businessman of Port Kaituma, North West District and also of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown was arrested last evening in Regional Police Division #1 after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as 299.7 grams of marijuana.

The police say that between 19:05 and 19:50 hrs, a Gazetted Officer and other ranks from Port Kaituma Police Station conducted a search on the dwelling house of Williams at Train Line, Port Kaituma.

The police found inside the house one 9 mm pistol with one  magazine containing six matching rounds of ammunitions along with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Williams, when questioned by the ranks on whether he was the holder of a firearm licence, remained silent. He was told of the allegations, arrested and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station where the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 299.7 grams.

He is presently in custody pending charges.
