As Queen’s College prepares to enter its 180th year as the prime academic institution of Guyana, the Queen’s College Old Students Association (QCOSA) has prepared a packed itinerary come October 2024 for students past and present.

The events in October will raise funds to facilitate upgrades to various sections of the school such as the labs and library among others.

Pauline Chase, Ian Lee Chung, Isa Foster and Christopher Belfield who are all members of the association took turns delivering remarks and showcased aspects of the itinerary.

Chase, President of QCOSA, said  that in celebration of the 180th anniversary, a series of activities will take place from October 20 to October 26, 2024. The event will be packed with various engaging programmes, starting with a tribute to the founding father of Queen’s College.

On October 21, 2024, the college’s special assembly will convene at the National Cultural Centre. The subsequent Tuesday will witness the inauguration of a research centre at Queen’s College, aimed at providing comprehensive insights into the school’s rich history. This will be followed by an evening of art at Castellani House, extending throughout the week-long festivities.

The subsequent Wednesday will be dedicated to guided tours, offering participants an immersive experience. Thursday will see a day of sports, featuring a friendly match between alumni and current students at the Scout Association Ground. Then, on Friday, activities will return to academia with a seminar on research and action, hosted at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. The week-long event will conclude with a grand gala hosted by QCOSA at the Guyana Marriott Hotel.

Ian Lee Chung another QCOSA executive board member shared the various packages that will be offered to patrons of the week-long event, the platinum package which costs 1.5 million dollars includes:  a full-page advertisement in the 180th magazine, premier branding for the company at all the events along with five registration packages where five members of the company will be able to attend the gala dinner with a full size table being reserved for them.

The gold package: which costs 1 million dollars, includes a half-page advertisement in the magazine, branding at all the events, three registration packages and 5 gala dinner tickets, the silver package: for $650,000 includes a quarter-page advertisement, branding at all events, 2 registration packages and three gala dinner tickets, the bronze package which costs $500,000 includes branding at all events, 2 registration packages and 2 gala dinner tickets.

The proceeds will aid in the development of the various departments within the school.

During the question and answer segment a few alumni questioned whether any proceeds would go towards pushing for the addition of oil and gas studies to keep the  current students abreast with the developing nation’s innovations. The Deputy Headmistress Candaice Cave responded  “over the years we do expose our children and they are aware of the oil and gas sector along with persons coming into the school to hold talks, along with tours”.
