Wisden Cricket Monthly magazine aglow with encomiums for West Indies team

Dear Editor,

The world-wide celebration of the recent West Indies test match victory over Australia isn’t over. The current issue of Wisden Cricket Monthly magazine is aglow with encomiums for the West Indies team, and Shamar Joseph in particular. In fact, the front cover features a picture of Shamar holding aloft a red cricket ball in his right hand while kissing his West Indies test cap held in his left hand, an image of immense symbolism. The magazine itself describes this edition as a “West Indies Special” with subheadings of “The Gabba Miracle” and “The Wild Rise of Shamar Joseph”, and more.

There is a seven page spread inside titled, “Rise Up! Catch a Fire! The Gabba Miracle: How it happened, What it Means, and What Has to Happen Next”. The renaissance, if this is one, as I pray it is, requires much more. There is a side bar within the article titled, ”Next Gen” describing seven emerging West Indian players, among them Matthew Nandu and Kevlon Anderson. Considering the relative youth of the team that won the Gabba Test, having a roster of good players on the bench augurs well for our cricket.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh
