Husband being sought in murder of Parika woman

The police say they are investigating the murder of Nikesha Sutton, a 24-year-old housewife of Parika Backdam, East Bank Demerara, which occurred at about 5 pm yesterday at Parika.

The suspect, who is yet to be apprehended, is Nikesha’s 24-year-old husband.

The police say that investigations so far indicate that at about 3 pm yesterday, the suspect arrived home under the influence of alcohol and a heated argument ensued between him and Nikesha after which the suspect left the home and went away. At about 5 pm, the suspect returned home with two alcoholic beverages in his hand at which point a heated argument ensued again between him and Nikesha, which resulted in a scuffle.

The sister of the deceased woman intervened to stop the scuffle.  Thereafter, the suspect told Nikesha to pack her things and move out of the home.

Information received revealed that Nikesha had placed some clothes in a bucket and was making her way through a track to her sister’s house nearby when the suspect picked up one of the beer bottles, broke it and dealt one stab to her neck. He then fled the scene.

She was escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival by the Doctor on duty. The body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination.

Police are looking for the suspect as investigations continue.
