Man held over murder of wife at Parika

Melroy LaRose, who was wanted by police for the murder of his reputed wife, Nikesha Sutton of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested on Wednesday.

Police say they are investigating the murder which occurred at about 5 pm on Monday at Parika. Sutton had been in a seven-year relationship with the 24-year-old man.

A post-mortem examination (PME) performed by government pathologist; Nehaul Singh on Sutton body revealed that she died as a result of a stab wound to the neck.

Investigations revealed that at about 3 pm, the suspect arrived home under the influence of alcohol and a heated argument ensued with his wife resulting in the man leaving the home. At about 5 pm, the suspect returned home with two alcoholic beverages in his hand and another heated argument erupted between the couple which resulted in a scuffle.

Sutton’s sister intervened to stop the scuffle and thereafter, the suspect told Nikesha to pack her things and move out of the home. Sutton then placed some clothes in a bucket and was making her way through a track to her sister’s house nearby, when the suspect allegedly picked up one of the beer bottles, broke it and stabbed her once in the neck. He then fled the scene.
