Amelia’s Ward man changes plea to guilty of trafficking ganja

Leonard Caleb yesterday appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court, where he changed his plea to guilty to  the offence of trafficking in narcotics to wit, 12.540kgs of cannabis, according to a release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU).

Sentencing was deferred to Tuesday 19th March, 2024.

On 30th November, 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation at Providence, East Bank Demerara in the vicinity of a popular mall, where they intercepted a motor car bearing registration number PAE 6311 driven by a lone occupant. A subsequent search of the motor car led to the discovery of a salt bag containing bulky parcels suspected to be cannabis.

Caleb, 37 years of Amelia’s Ward, Linden was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis, weighing approximately 12.54 kg (almost 27.6 lbs.), with a street value of approximately $4 million.
