Anthony Bartolomey, a food vendor of Princes Street, Georgetown, appeared before newly appointed magistrate, Michelle Matthias, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with three different offences.

It was alleged that on March 4, at Howes Street, Charlestown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Gloria Wilson. It is also alleged that he made use of threatening language to Gloria Wilson causing a breach of the peace, and it is also alleged that on the day in question he used abusive language to Gloria Wilson.

Bartolomey plead not guilty to all charges.

The prosecutor objected to bail citing the nature and gravity of the offence. The court heard that on the day in question Bartolomey went to Wilson’s house in Charlestown and attempted to enter her yard. On seeing this she immediately instructed him to leave her property, however he ignored her request and entered the premises. He then picked up a glass bottle and struck Wilson in the head causing her to suffer injuries and to seek medical attention.

The magistrate was also informed that the defendant gave two different lot numbers to the police and the court.

Bartoloemy became irate and shouted out in the court, telling the prosecutor to discipline themselves and to focus. “Let the magistrate know what made her get that lash. I wouldn’t lash her just so and turn in myself, so focus prosecutor!”

Aside from his violent outburst in court, Bartolomey also exhibited threatening behaviour towards persons in the court while before the magistrate.

Considering these factors, Magistrate Matthias granted the defendant bail on the charge of threatening behaviour in the sum of $10,000 and for the abusive language charge, bail in the sum of $10,000, totalling $20,000.

However on the unlawful wounding charge he was refused bail and remanded to prison until April 10.
