Guyana registers mixed results in rounds 5 & 6

Guyana suffered mixed results in rounds 5 and 6 of the inaugural CARICOM Classic Chess Championship yesterday at the Princess Ramada Hotel in Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Round 5 started positively for the locals as Guyana 1 downed the Bahamas 2.5-1.5. Taffin Khan defeated Avian Pride, while Anthony Drayton bested Joseph Ferguson. On the other hand, Shazeeda Rahim drew with Chika Pride. Jessica Callender lost to Polina Karelina.

However, Guyana 2 lost to Suriname 3.5-.5. Keron Sandiford lost to Shaief Chashawa, Kyle Couchman went down to Jason Yeung, and Sasha Shariff was defeated by Victoria Kaslan. Aditi Joshi drew her match with Maylee Tjong Tjin Joe.

In Round 6, the Bahamas defeated Guyana 2 by a score of 2.5-1.5. Avian Pride defeated Sandiford, while Karelina downed Shariff. On the other hand, Couchman defeated Ferguson, while Joshi and Chika Pride played to a draw.

Meanwhile, Guyana 1 and Barbados played to a 2-2 stalemate. Khan defeated Emar Edwards, while Drayton bested Philip Corbin. However, Callender and Rahim lost to Katrina Blackman and Hannah Wilson, respectively.
