A cybercrime charge stemming from statements political activist Dr Veerasammy Ramayya made about a pandit in an online video in 2022 were on Tuesday dismissed at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

In December, 2022, Dr Ramayya, of Lot 64 Whim Village, Corentyne, was charged with the offence of using a computer system to harass and humiliate Surujdyal Sahadeo, called Pandit Dave, 43, of Crabwood Creek on Wednesday June 1. Presenting the basic facts of the charge to the court, Police Prosecutor Lenox Poliah told the court that Dr Ramayya posted a video of himself lambasting the character of Sahadeo in June, 2022. Ramayya had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His  attorney, Mirza Sahadat this week presented a no-case submission to Magistrate Renita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and she dismissed the charge.

During the court proceedings, it was discovered that the claims being made by the Pandit were not in the video presented and that he had seemingly formed his own conclusions from the initial statements made.
