What now for Haiti?

Dear Editor,

It appears, from reports, the long hours of intense negotiations and compromises, in brokering the CARICOM/international partners transitional council deal for Haiti, is in tatters and falling apart. From reports, certain political leaders are openly opposed and have outright rejected the plan, banishing it to the garbage bin.

It seems the jostling for positions has begun with one known leader in particular, with a criminal record, eyeing presidential ambitions. What now for CARICOM, the international partners, the UN? How does this development affect the proposed Kenya led deployment of security personnel to the country?

Should Haiti be allowed to continue its free fall? Where is Haiti heading.  Does the leaders opposed to the brokered plan, looking after personal interests, know?  Is Haiti holding true to CARICOM values?

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
