Miss Universe Guyana Assistant Director Toni Burnett has died at 35

Miss Universe Guyana Assistant Director Toni Burnett died of a sudden cardiac arrest on Friday, March 8. She was 35 years old and was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing.

A Miss Universe Guyana Organisation press release stated that Burnett was laid to rest in Washington, DC on Friday, March 15.

Born on February 28, 1989 to Guyanese parents Caroline Burnett and Eric Smith, she made significant contributions to the fashion and pageant industries, the release said. It noted that she had held such prestigious titles as Miss Guyana (2010), Miss Caribbean Metro USA (2010), Ms Maryland United States (2017), and Ms United States 2017.

The release said Burnette leaves behind a lasting impact as she was known for her work in fashion runway shows throughout the United States and the Caribbean and for mentoring aspiring models. She is survived by her son, parents, and extended family. Accord-ing to the press release, her vibrant personality and legacy will be remembered by all who loved her, with her spirit living on through the Miss Universe Guyana Organisation.
