Man wanted by Interpol appears in court on drug charge

Netherlands national Vitesh Jamnapersad Guptar, a 59-year-old businessman of Lot 93 Duke Street, Kingston, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where the allegation of conspiracy to traffic drugs internationally was read to him.

Guptar is wanted by the International Police Agency (Interpol) for aggravated criminal conspiracy to commit international drug trafficking.

 The prosecution is set to present the Request to Proceed from Italy, since Guptar has been on the Interpol’s red list since 2019 and is wanted for his alleged involvement with a mafia organization.

As a result Guptar was remanded to prison until March 28 2024 awaiting the decision for extradition to Italy.

According to a police release, the man was arrested on Sunday March 17 2024 during an intelligence-led operation at Palm Court on Main Street, Georgetown

His next court appearance will be on March 28 2024.

He was represented by attorney at law Ronald Daniels.
