Man shot in Albouystown amid family feud

A 32-year-old taxi driver was shot in his foot early yesterday morning when four men with guns launched an attack on Campbell Street, Albouystown that appeared to be targeted at the victim’s mother-in-law.

In a statement yesterday, the police say they are investigating the incident where Rafael Hintzen of East La Penitence, Georgetown was shot at 12.10 am.

Both Hintzen and one of the shooters are sons-in-law of the woman who believes she was the target.

Information received from the 41-year-old mother-in-law is that on Phagwah Day, her nephew sprayed water from a ‘water gun’ on one of the suspect’s friends and this angered the suspect.

Subsequently, she and the suspect (her son-in-law) were engaged in a heated argument when he allegedly threatened to kill her.

At about 12.10 am yesterday, Hintzen was in his car which was parked on Campbell Street, Albouystown, and his mother-in-law was inside the yard sitting on a chair when the suspect and three other men (all of whom were armed with handguns) emerged  from an alleyway opposite the yard and started to fire several rounds in the direction of Hintzen and his mother-in-law.

Hintzen exited  his car and ran into the yard where his mother-in-law,   realizing  that he had been shot in the foot, tried to pull him up the step to get him into the house.

In doing so, the woman said that she saw the suspect (her son-in-law) and his accomplices running through the front gate in her direction, firing several rounds at her. The woman said  that she then left Hintzen  at the bottom of the stairway, ran upstairs, and closed the door.

The suspects then ran back to a waiting car and escaped.  Hintzen was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by a relative, where he was seen by a doctor and admitted. His condition is stable.

Detectives recovered several spent shells and warheads at the scene. Several persons were questioned, and useful information was obtained. Police are looking for the suspects as investigations continue.
