Justice moved swiftly in the case of a 36-year-old security officer of Buxton, who was yesterday sentenced to two years in prison for possession of 15 live AK-47 ammunition rounds when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

According to a police press release, Orin Younge, also known as Orin Matthews, of 116 Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, was arrested by the police on Friday, April 5.

An earlier press release detailing his arrest stated that the police had gone to the man’s home in response to a report of assault and threatening behaviour. It was alleged that the man had assaulted and threatened his child’s mother with a gun. The police found “15 live 7.62×39 ammunition rounds at his residence” that release had said, but no gun. It added that the man was cautioned and arrested.

According to the police, when Younge was taken to court yesterday and the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty to possession of illegal ammunition. Magistrate Azore then quickly sentenced him.
