Police destroy large ganja farms in Berbice River

Police during an eradication exercise at Wiruni, Berbice River, destroyed two cannabis farms last Friday.

Last Friday between 03:00 and 16:05 hrs a party of police ranks led by an assistant superintendent conducted an eradication exercise at Wiruni, a police press release stated.

During the operation, it added, two farms growing suspected marijuana were discovered. The first farm covered about 20 acres. A makeshift camp and drying area with 1,200 pounds of dry cannabis with a street value of $489,879,360.00, were found.

The second farm covered about 10 acres with 150,000 plants ranging from 6 to 8 feet with an approximate street value of $50,820,000 the police said. Both farms were destroyed.
