Two refused bail on armed robbery charge

Twenty-five-year-old Wayne Kellman and nineteen-year-old Shamar Norton both appeared before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with armed robbery.

It was alleged that on March 29, 2024 at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, while in the company of others and with one of them armed with a gun, they robbed Charles McKenzie of one Samsung Galaxy cellphone valued $30,000, a quantity of clothes valued $10,000, one item valued $200 and reading glasses valued $20,000.

The prosecution objected to bail citing the gravity of the offence and asked Magistrate Nurse to consider the penalty for the offence which is five years imprisonment. The prosecution also said that both Kellman and Norton are wanted by the East La Penitence police in relation to a series of robberies in the area. The magistrate refused both defendants bail and the matter was adjourned to May 29, 2024.
