The 115 Defiant monohull patrol vessel, designed and built by US company Metal Shark, has arrived in Guyana to join the Guyana Defence Force’s fleet, a release from the Office of the President said.

It will join eight other Metal Shark patrol boats currently in service with the GDF.

“This new 115 Defiant will help to protect Guyana’s burgeoning oil and gas industry and the far-reaching interests supporting its development, many of them right here at home. We believe this formidable, American-made patrol craft will be a game-changer for regional security. It is already generating significant interest from naval forces across the Caribbean basin and throughout Latin America”, Metal Shark said on its website.

In a statement today, the GDF said that onboard the vessel were four Officers and twelve ranks from the GDF CG, accompanied by one Officer, two Ranks from the Regional Security System, and four Metal Shark Boats personnel. They were greeted by the Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, Colonel General Colonel Kenlloyd Roberts, Branch Heads, Senior Officers, and other members of the Coast Guard. The National Security Advisor, Captain Gerald Gouveia was also present.
