The University of Guyana’s Artist in Residence Programme recently held an exclusive music master class, with internationally acclaimed Grammy and Tony nominated trumpeter and jazz musician, Reggie Pittman, at the university’s Education Lecture Theatre (ELT), Turkeyen Campus, a UG release stated last week.

Present were several persons in the creative arts industry, including UG students, members of the Theatre Guild, the Guyana Police Force Steel Orchestra, representatives of the National Drama Company, EdYou FM, and Woodside Choir, who benefitted from the expertise of the international musician.

With over thirty years of experience in the music industry, Pittman shared his musical journey and techniques for performing, networking and collaborating on the international stage. He also encouraged the artists to hone their craft and work hard. “If you want to become great, you must practice every day and it will become part of you.”

He explained that sometimes an artiste must practice thirty hours to perfect a technique for a piece that will only last for three minutes, the release added.
