Wisroc man gets 10 years for rape of teen

Twenty-one-year-old Wisroc Housing Scheme, Linden resident, Joshua Lawrence has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the rape of a teenage girl.

The sentence was handed down on Thursday by Justice Sandil Kissoon at the High Court in Georgetown.

Lawrence, a business administration student had been charged with the offence of sexual activity.

At his arraignment, Lawrence had pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the then 15-year-old on two separate occasions  in February of 2021.

Justice Kissoon sentenced Lawrence to 10 years in prison on each count; ordering that they be served concurrently; less time served on remand awaiting trial.

In addition to the sentence, Justice Kissoon has ordered that the offender be exposed to rehabilitative programmes while behind bars.

The state’s case was presented by prosecutors Madonna Ramkissoon and Praneta Seeraj.

Meanwhile, Lawrence was represented by defence attorney Ronald Bostwick.
