Courts Optical expanding eye care service for children

As part of its mission to ensure that youths are provided with access to essential eye care services and correctional treatment, Courts Optical, a subsidiary of Unicomer (Guyana) Inc, has announced its annual community programme, “Brighter View”, which focusses on providing a free pair of prescription eyeglasses for children ages 6 to 18 years old.

According to a Courts Optical release yesterday, the Brighter View programme which was originally launched in 2017, reflects Courts Optical’s commitment to providing access to quality vision services for all Guyanese. Since the launch of the programme, more than 500 children across 20 schools in the region have received free eye care.

This year, Courts Optical says it is expanding the Brighter View programme to 10 locations, to include its Optical Corriverton, Berbice. It will also expand its partnerships with orphanages within the community of each of its ten Optical Stores locations. This plan, it explained, targets children as well as young adults, from 6 to 18 years old.

Meanwhile, Courts Optical Chain Manager, Richard Simpson, spoke of collaborating with community schools. “Courts Optical continues to live up to the Brighter View purpose and is currently collaborating with community schools around the Courts Optical Stores to provide Free Comprehensive Eye Examinations and assign a Free Pair of prescription glasses to those who require vision health care but lack the financial means to obtain vision correction diagnosis and care.”

The release explained that to receive the free testing and eyewear, the Optical Team first contacts the school’s administration where they will nominate the students requiring vision health care. This is then followed by a comprehensive eye examination by qualified optometrists at Courts Optical Stores who will make recommendations for prescription glasses. These are then provided by Courts Optical and issued to the children at no cost.

Courts Optical & Unicomer Guyana emphasised the importance of clear vision & vision health care for a child’s academic success and overall well-being and assured that the Brighter View programme will continue its mission to ensuring that the Guyanese youths are provided with access to essential eye care services and correctional treatment.
