Man charged with Non Pariel armed robbery after stolen iPhone traced

Romel Zephaniah, a 24-year-old labourer of Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara was arrested on May 03, 2024 and charged with two counts of armed robbery on Lin Gon Qing and Xie Gon Qin on 2024-05-03 at Non-Pariel.

The police say that the accused appeared yesterday at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court No.1 before Magistrate  Orinthia Schmidt and the charges were read to him. He pleaded ‘not guilty’ to both counts and was remanded to prison.

This matter was adjourned to June 03, 2024.

On May 03, 2024, between 2 am and 2.30 am  the police say that Gon Qing was relieved of $400,000 and one iPhone 12 Pro max valued  at $325,000 and Xie Hong Shang of one iPhone 12 valued at $280,000.

Inquiries disclosed that the victims secured their premises and retired to bed. They were later awoken by three males with faces covered,  armed with a gun and a long knife.

The men demanded cash and proceeded to ransack the living quarters and took the cash and items. They then escaped.

A report was made to the Police and a description given of the suspects.

An investigation was launched and Zaphaniah was arrested after the iPhone 12 pro max was traced to his home.
