I was dismayed at the lack of international media coverage of the PPP Congress

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the lack of coverage of the recent 32nd Congress of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in Guyana by international TV and alternative media outlets.

It is perplexing that such a significant event, which holds immense importance, not only for Guyana but also for the broader geopolitical landscape, did not receive the attention it deserved. As a country that has been assuming prominent roles such as chairing CARICOM, holding a seat on the UN Security Council, and emerging as a significant player in the global oil industry, Guyana’s affairs should be of interest to the international community.

The PPP’s congress is not merely a gathering of party comrades; it is where crucial policies are formulated, decisions are made, and the trajectory of the nation’s future is charted. The outcomes of such events have far-reaching implications, and it is imperative that they are brought to the attention of the global audience, especially the diaspora.

By overlooking events like the PPP’s congress, the international media, including those of the Caribbean, are not only neglecting their responsibility to provide comprehensive coverage but also depriving their audiences of valuable insights into the political dynamics and developments in a country of geopolitical significance.

I urge the global media ecosystem to consider the importance of covering events like the PPP’s congress in future editorial decisions. Providing accurate and insightful coverage of such events is not only a matter of journalistic integrity but also crucial for fostering a better understanding of global affairs among the public.

Sincerely,

Keith Bernard
