It is a shame that our teachers have to fight for a few dollars

Dear Editor,

If we as a nation are projecting for the future and what I mean if the government or opposition have any long- term plans for Guyana what they do today would certainly make or break them later. We have to be mindful as to how we are treating our teachers because not too long from now we are going to lose them for greener pastures if we are not already feeling the consequences. And don’t tell me that the government do not have monies to pay our teachers because if they are going to weigh into that area then stop giving away monies to aid and embrace loyal friendships, instead use those same monies to pay our teachers.

Editor, honestly, it is a shame how our teachers have to fight and fight for a few dollars. Our teachers should have been considered. They should have been recognized for their work, their title. It is a shame how everything have become politicised, taking Guyana four steps backward instead of going eight steps ahead. I hope someone would come to the forefront and speak up and start lobbying for our teachers. Priya, this is your ministry and by right your voice should have been the loudest to make an impact, signaling for better wages and salaries for your teachers. Editor, I will be watching from the North. I sincerely hope that good sense would prevail.

Sincerely,

Yannason Duncan
