The PNCR yesterday announced the passing of former long-serving General Secretary Oscar Clarke.
In a statement, the party said: “The PNCR wishes to inform the general public and membership of our Party that we have lost a Stalwart, Mr. Oscar Clarke, CCH, former General Secretary, Senior Minister of Regional Development, Diplomat and loving member of our Party, who passed away today, Wednesday 15th May 2024. The Party is very saddened by this loss. The void he left can never be filled. We wish to extend our sympathy to his wife, children, family, members of our Party and all Guyanese. May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace!”
Clarke served at one time as High Commissioner to Zambia and had a long tenure at the city council.
He was the party’s General Secretary through the tenures of three Party Leaders and retired with effect from 30th June 2017. He continued as a city councillor even after retirement as General Secretary. The city council yesterday posted the following line on its Facebook page: “The Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown offer their deepest sympathies to the friends and family of former Councillor, Mr. Oscar Clarke”.
Clarke served as a Member of Parliament for twenty-one years and in 2015 he was awarded the Cacique Crown of Honour for his public service to Guyana.
