In an expression of gratitude for their dedication on the frontline, the Regional Health Services, in collaboration with the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two on Saturday evening hosted a dinner and appreciation ceremony in honour of Nurses and Midwives Day.
The event was held at the Anna Regina Town Hall where the concerted efforts of the healthcare heroes were lauded, and this year’s commemoration centred around the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care”.
The Prime Minister’s Representative and Chairman of the Health and Sanitation Committee in the Region, Arnold Adams extended gratitude to the nurses and midwives for their sterling contributions. He assured them of the unwavering support of the government and pledged to champion their interests through the Ministry of Health.
Regional Health Officer Dr Ranjeev Singh noted the pivotal role nurses play in society’s healthcare fabric, serving as compassionate caregivers and trusted allies to those in need.
Anna Regina Mayor Devin Mohan underscored the profound impact nurses have on society, acknowledging them as pillars of strength and hope. He expressed gratitude for their selfless contributions, which often go unrecognized.
Matron Peggy Allicock of Suddie Public Hospital expressed heartfelt appreciation to the entire nursing team, recognizing their unwavering dedication and urging them to continue upholding the highest standards of care.
In recognition of their exemplary service, plaques were bestowed on nurses and midwives overseeing various wards, hospitals, and health centres.
Additionally, tokens of appreciation were distributed to healthcare workers in hospital and primary care settings, honouring their commitment to excellence. Among the notable awardees for Most Outstanding Nurse were Lavita Persaud of the Oscar Joseph Hospital, Charity; Alicia Lynch-Bell of Suddie Public Hospital, and Patricia Ramnauth for Primary Health-care, among others.
