Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Linden edition
– Fearless, Spaniards also advance
Three-time defending champion of the Linden ‘Guinness Greatest of the Streets’ edition, Swag Entertainment, advanced to the round of 16 section following a 2-0 win over Anybody Could Get It last night at the Silver City Hard-court.
Despite beginning the match with only three players, Swag Entertainment dominated proceedings, with Deon Charter the driving force behind the team’s attacking forays until reinforcements arrived in the second half to continue the supremacy.
Carter’s persistence was rewarded in the 19th minute with a ‘Guinness Goal’ (GG) [a goal scored in the final three minutes of the match counts as two] when he finished off a team move to calmly slot home to send his side through.
Meanwhile, the second game of the night, which brought Coomacka and Fearless together, saw the former concede an own goal in the very first minute of the game, which set the tone for the rest of the match.
Devon Gilbert then doubled the advantage for his side with a strike from the centre of the field in the eighth minute to seal a round of 16 berth via a 2-0 score.
In the third encounter, the Spaniards defeated the Hi-Flyers 3-1. Jermin King netted for the Spaniards in the sixth minute, while the Hi-Flyers conceded an own goal in the eighth minute, with King adding another in the ninth to give the Spanish a firm advantage.
However, Irise Albert punctuated King’s brace with a goal of his own for the Hi-Flyers in the seventh minute.
While the first half was all about goals, the second half saw shared possession with no end product at either side of the pitch, with the Spaniards running out winners.
