Minibus bus driver dies in Grove public road collision

The police are investigating an early morning collision that claimed the life of a 38-year-old bus driver on the Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara yesterday.

The dead man has been identified as Keyon Harvey of 254 Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara. The driver of the other bus involved and its passengers who were all injured, were treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and sent away.

Reports are that the fatal accident occurred at about 05.40 hours yesterday and involved a minibus, BVV 1137 driven, by Harvey; and another minibus, BAC 950, owned and driven by Paul David, a 52 year-old of Lot 45 Public Road, Friendship, East Bank Demerara with passengers, Yannick Noel, a 27-year-old of Lot 8 Supply, EBD, Vishal Goriah, a 19- year-old of Lot 42 Friendship, East Bank Demerara, and Latoya Thorne, 44, of Lot 34 Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

Investigations have so far revealed that Harvey was proceeding south along the Friendship Public at an alleged fast rate when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the front of mini bus, BAC 950, which was stationary, picking up passengers.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles were extensively damaged, and both drivers, along with the passengers, sustained injuries. Emergency medical technicians were summoned and Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene.  The injured passengers and driver were taken to Diamond Diagnostic Centre for medical attention. They were all treated and sent away.

The body of Harvey is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
