The police are still on the hunt for Okeemo Arak Brummell of Bel Air Springs who is accused of being among three men posing as members of the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU) and abducted an Aurora Gold Mining Inc employee from the Giftland Mall, Turkeyen, and took him to his home where he was forced to hand over $9.5 million.
Brummell, 29, was identified by CCTV cameras as one of the men who abducted Fiedtkou on October 10.
Kevin Fiedtkou, a 31-year-old Operations Supervisor attached to Aurora Gold Mining Inc, yesterday told the Stabroek News that on Thursday the police told him that they are still searching for Brummell. Regarding the identification of other two men, Fiedtkou related that so far, he was told by the police that they have enhance the CCTV video to see if they can recognise the two men. He surmised that they likely have been unable to do so since he has not received a call from them on the matter. However, he expressed confidence that the police will do their job. “Let them [police] do their job so by next week they can find someone.”
The Aurora Gold Mining supervisor reported that around 12.30 hours on October 10, three men held him against his will at the Giftland Mall compound. The men took him to his home at Providence, East Bank Demerara where he handed over $9,500,000. They did not physically harm him.
Fiedtkou further related that he has a small sand truck business which generates a cash flow for him and at the time, he had $9.5 million at home, which the men took along with his NVR [network video recorder]. The following day, the same men revisited in a police car and demanded more money which he did not have. He said he eventually gave the men whatever loose cash he had and they left his home. Fiedtkou said that after some careful consideration about which station to report the matter to, he proceeded to do so. This incident has left both him and his family traumatised.
