Linden salon owner injured during armed robbery

A 27-year-old hairdresser of Wismar, Linden has been hospitalised after she was shot by a masked gunman at her salon at Cocoa Road, Wismar. on Saturday night in the course of a robbery.

According to a press release, police in Regional Police Division #10 are currently investigating the armed robbery that took place on Saturday night at Kesha Slay Zone Salon in Wismar, Linden. The incident occurred around 21:20 hrs, the police said, according to salon owner Mockesha Stanford, who reported the crime.

The release said Stanford told the police that she was working on a client’s hair, while an employee Shameza Hollingsworth and two customers, Annilie Pelew and Shamiah Inniss, were also in the salon. The suspect, whom she described to the police as a man approximately 5’4” tall, dark in complexion with short dreadlocks, was partially masked and armed with a handgun. She told the police that he entered the salon, gun in hand, and demanded cash from Stanford and a gold ring Pelew was wearing.

The release said that Stanford was relieved of $130,000 in cash, and Pelew’s five-pennyweight gold ring valued at $60,000 was also taken. 

As he was leaving, the salon owner told police, the suspect turned back and fired at her, hitting the lower part of her right leg, before making good his escape. The release said that Stanford was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex and her condition has been reported as stable.

Police responded to the scene and recovered a 9 MM spent shell. Several individuals have been questioned in connection with the robbery and useful information has emerged, the release said. The investigation is ongoing.
