Granger nominates eight for GECOM Chair including Patterson

President David Granger and his representatives have been accused by the Opposition of failing to act in “good faith” after they made eight nominations and  refused to engage in discussion about the 11 names nominated by Opposition Leader for Chair of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

A key meeting between President David Granger and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) ended yesterday with no election date set and the seven-member commission has been asked to continue with poll preparations even as it seeks agreement on when “credible” elections can be held.

President urges GECOM to begin poll preparations

President David Granger has urged the Guyana Election Commission (GECOM) to begin preparations for general and regional elections (GRE) and has said government will initiate measures to make the required funding available.
