Williams makes pitch at congress for re-election as PNCR Chairman

Incumbent Chairman Basil Williams yesterday made a last minute case for his re-election during his address at the opening of the PNCR’s 20th Biennial Delegates’ Congress, where he urged that “tested… and proven” candidates be elected to the party’s executive tomorrow.

Yachting event cancelled over reports on pirate attacks

An international yachting event that was due to be hosted here next month has been cancelled following reports in the local and international media stemming from deadly attacks on fishermen off the coast of Suriname earlier in the year.

Patterson to address Cabinet on PPC’s findings of violations in award of bridge study contract

State Minister Joseph Harmon said on Thursday that it is expected that Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson will address Cabinet on the findings made by the Public Procurement Commission (PPC) of breaches of the procurement laws in the award of a contract to Dutch firm LievenseCSO for a feasibility study for a new bridge over the Demerara River “It was not discussed at Cabinet [this week] but certainly I expect that the Minister of Public Infrastructure would address the matter and that by the next Cabinet meeting will bring to Cabinet a position on the issue that has been put into the public domain,” Harmon told reporters at a press briefing on Thursday.

‘Berbice businesses must drive the Berbice economy’

The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (CCCC), with the Ministry of Business, on Wednesday launched its 14th Berbice Expo and Trade Fair, which is slated for October 5th to 8th under the theme ‘Advancing Economic Progress through Professional Standards and Entrepreneurship.’
