Caricom, UN Women ink support pact for gender equality

A two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining areas of support to drive the achievement of gender equality goals was signed yesterday by the Caricom Secretariat and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

Palm-oil adulterated milk from Bahrain refused entry

A shipment containing over 7,000 cases of milk imported from the Kingdom of Bahrain located in the Persian Gulf was denied entry into Guyana by the Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) after it was found that it was adulterated with vegetable oil.

A man is now in police custody assisting with investigations following the discovery of 13 kilogrammes of cannabis destined for Port Kaituma, North West District last Saturday.

President asks for new GECOM list, Jagdeo to respond

The Office of the Leader of the Opposition said it received correspondence today, Monday, January 9, 2017 from the Ministry of the Presidency in which President David Granger formally notified Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo that his list of nominees for the Chair of GECOM was unacceptable and asked that a new list be provided.
