City stunned by flash flood

Incessant rain, which began in the wee hours of yesterday, left most of the city under several inches of water, closing schools, shuttering businesses and causing millions of dollars in damage.

No severe weather warnings from $550m Doppler radar

Public advised to use treated water

Civil Society presents petition to Caricom on DR nationality ruling

The regional civil society on Tuesday presented a petition to Caricom Heads of Government denouncing a controversial court ruling in the Dominican Republic (DR) that could strip tens of thousands of persons – mostly of Haitian descent – of their DR citizenship Presenting the petition, Professor Norman Girvan said Caricom has an “historic opportunity” to demonstrate its relevance to, and its caring for, the citizens of the region by resolving the issue, according to a press release yesterday from Caricom.

CAL allows ‘bad weather’ changes

Caribbean Airlines Ltd is advising passengers booked and ticketed to travel today to North America that they will be allowed to make changes to their reservations because of bad weather in the United States.

Forty-three schools to remain closed on Thursday

The Ministry of Education this evening said that forty-two schools in Georgetown and one on the East Coast of Demerara will remain closed on Thursday, November 28th following flooding today from heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours.

The following statement was received from the Ministry of Agriculture today: “The Hydrometeorological Office has reported a high pressure system over the Bermuda which was dominant and forced the intertropical Convergence Zone to shift from its last position, to about 6 degrees North of the equator bringing it directly over Guyana’s Coast.
