Gov’t failed to address doubts about Amaila, local gov’t bills

The parliamentary opposition APNU and the AFC yesterday defended their decision to withhold support for the government amendment and motion billed as crucial for the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project, saying the Donald Ramotar administration failed to address major doubts about the project’s viability and offer clear support for the re-tabled local government reform bills.

More Guyanese tolerant of homosexuals

Guyanese are largely either tolerant or accepting of homosexuals, though most believe that being homosexual is a matter of choice, according to a recent study by Caribbean Development Research Services Inc (CADRES), a regional political consultancy firm.

Storm caused power outages, low voltage

Outages experienced around Georgetown and along the East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Thursday were as a result of the weather system, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said yesterday, laying to rest speculation that the company’s distribution system was to blame.
