CJ rules law doesn’t favour judges for Gecom chair

Acting Chief Justice Roxane George SC yesterday ruled that the list of nominees for the post of Guyana Elections Com-mission (Gecom) Chair does not have to include a judge, a former judge or a person qualified to be a judge and that the President must state reasons for rejecting any candidate.

Ranks of the Joint Services during an intelligence-led operation yesterday afternoon apprehended accused Trinidadian drug trafficker Cornelius Thomas, the second of six prisoners who escaped from the Georgetown Prison on July 9.

GWI mum on rehab of hydrant near Camp St jail

Nearly six months after the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) proudly announced that it had rehabilitated over 300 fire hydrants in Georgetown, the public utility company is refusing to respond to questions about one hydrant it failed to fix outside the Camp Street jail.
