Letters to the Editor

SN blog

Dear Editor, May I take this opportunity to congratulate Stabroek News on their discussion forum whereby ordinary people can put forward their various points of view.

As a statutory body the GEA must file annual reports

Dear Editor, I write in response to the letter by the Honourable Prime Minister (`The Guyana Energy Agency is being reasonably well run published in SN of September 14, 2013’), which he said was written out of ”a need and a duty to set the record straight, [and] dispel any erroneous concerns and doubts” created about the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA).

NACTA poll shows PPP in lead over Opposition

Dear Editor, An opinion survey conducted in early August by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA) found that the ruling PPP/C leads the opposition in voter support in the event early elections are called to resolve the parliamentary impasse brought about by the November 2011 general elections when the combined opposition emerged with a one seat majority.

There is mismanagement at GPL

Dear Editor, Reading the reports about GPL and the fight against electricity loss/thefts during the past week in KN and SN, I have come to the conclusion that the officials are hell bent on trying to make the public believe that electricity theft is the only problem hindering the development of the power company, whilst they fail to admit mismanagement is one of the main contributing factors to the company’s decline.

Too much negativity

Dear Editor, I continue to be dismayed by the monotonous outpourings of some letter writers to your newspaper who seem incapable of even looking at our Guyanese situation from any other perspective than their own narrow-minded, holier-than-thou positions.

The Guyana Energy Agency is being run reasonably well

Dear Editor, I seek your indulgence to present to the public a response to the articles regarding the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), which appeared in the September 11 and 12 editions of the Kaieteur News, viz, ‘GEA handles US$350 million in fuel, submits questionable financial statements – Christopher Ram’; ‘AFC wants GEA thoroughly investigated ‒ Ram should be awarded the Order of Excellence -Khemraj Ramjattan’ These articles have little substance but much conjecture and suggestions, and seem intended to create (or perhaps, to suffer from) confusion and illusions of corruption.

Today’s youth must be encouraged to participate in outdoor sporting activities

Dear Editor, Ms Tamanisha John’s letter entitled ‘Education along with youth involvement must be promoted to achieve gains” published in SN on September 6, highlighted the need for individuals to improve themselves academically, as an important cog in the wheel of empowering the nation’s youth, alongside the programme of “servant leaders” being developed by the Linden-based organisation, Youth Vision.

No change in behaviour of minibus conductors

Dear Editor, One would have thought that the conduct of minibus conductors following the fatal accident at Brickdam and Louisa Row a few days back would have engendered some positive change, but it was not to be.

Amazing advertisement

Dear Editor, An advertisement appearing in the SN of August 18 on page 17A captioned ‘Guyana Football Federation Expressions of Interest’ has left me amazed.
